Heat pumps designed for Sevenoaks homes

We're heat pump installers based in Sidcup, working across Sevenoaks, about 12 miles from our base. We design, fit, service and repair air source heat pumps, and our engineers are Heat Geek Verified.

If you're weighing up an air source heat pump in Sevenoaks, start with a heat loss survey. We work out how much heat each room loses, then size the heat pump and radiators to match. That matters here, where a narrow Victorian cottage and a large Arts and Crafts house on the other side of town need very different systems.

We work with Daikin, Ideal and Vaillant heat pumps. Sevenoaks is one of the towns we cover from Sidcup.

Conservation areas and listed homes

Most air source heat pumps in England are fitted under permitted development, so no planning application is needed. Sevenoaks needs more care than most towns, because much of its older centre sits in conservation areas, including the High Street, The Vine, Kippington and Hartslands.

In a conservation area the outdoor unit usually can't go on a wall or roof that faces the road. A listed building needs consent from Sevenoaks District Council before any work starts. We check where your home stands before we design anything, and our planning permission guide explains the rules in more detail.

The answer is usually in the siting. A unit at the back of the house, placed away from neighbours' windows, works for most homes and leaves the street looking as it does now.

From Hartslands cottages to Kippington houses

Hartslands is a compact grid of Victorian terraced cottages, first built for the town's gas works, laundry and railway workers. Frontages are narrow, front gardens are shallow and neighbours are close, so the outdoor unit's position and noise level need planning from the start. We've fitted heat pumps in old, narrow terraced houses, and a small plot doesn't have to rule one out.

Kippington, on the west side of town, is the opposite. Its large, individually designed houses stand in big plots, built from the late Victorian years through to the 1920s, including Arts and Crafts houses. Big rooms, older walls and original timber windows mean more heat to replace, so these homes often need a larger heat pump, a bigger hot water cylinder and some larger radiators. Our survey shows which rooms need upgrading and which radiators can stay.

Newer homes with better insulation are usually simpler, with smaller radiator changes or none at all.

Getting an older heating system ready

In older Sevenoaks homes the radiators and pipework have often been in place for decades. Sludge and rust build up inside, radiators go cold at the bottom and water struggles to circulate. Powerflushing clears that debris and gets the system moving again.

It matters before a heat pump goes in, too. A heat pump runs at lower temperatures and needs clean water flowing freely around the whole system, so it's worth clearing sludge first rather than letting it clog a new unit. We'll tell you at the survey whether your system needs a flush.

If your home runs on oil, as some in the villages around Sevenoaks do, a heat pump can replace the oil boiler. We've switched homes from oil to air source heat pumps, fitting a new hot water cylinder at the same time.

Already have a heat pump? We offer fixed-fee heat pump servicing and heat pump repairs for Daikin, Vaillant and other major makes. A yearly service keeps it running efficiently and may be needed to keep your manufacturer's warranty valid.
