Be cautious if an engineer cannot provide useful readings, does not inspect the indoor system or controls, dismisses repeated symptoms without investigation, or recommends refrigerant work without explaining the evidence.
Other warning signs include leaving filters dirty, failing to check accessible pipework and insulation, making control changes without explaining them, or completing a very brief visit with no service record. A professional should also distinguish between routine maintenance and repairs that need separate approval.
